You will serve as the Finance Analyst for VMware Carbon Black (Security Business Unit). Two years ago, VMware acquired Carbon Black for $2.1B to bring together two market leaders to address the ever-growing need for enterprise security. According to the United Nations, cybercrime is up 600% since the pandemic began and the VMware Carbon Black business unit plays a critical role in helping our customers protect their endpoints and workloads in today's distributed workplace. This position provides an opportunity for a self-motivated, analytical individual to join the Product & Cloud Services (PCS) Finance team that is reshaping how finance supports an evolving and fast-growing SaaS business. -The PCS Finance team provides day-to-day financial leadership to the product-focused business units and their executive leaders. The team's overall mission is to provide trusted and insightful financial information to enable executive leadership to make effective decisions in maximizing VMware's ROI. This team also has a strong focus to enhance the quality, efficiency, and scale of financial information produced, through process improvements, financial tools, and automation.What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?We are looking for a driven, self-motivated professional who can apply analytical problem-solving skills and execute tactically. The ability to perform in a fast-paced environment is critical with strong attention to detail. Your primary responsibilities will include providing value-add analysis and financial guidance to the Engineering, Product Management, and CTO organizations regarding headcount and OpEx/discretionary affordability. This position will play a key role in building effective cross-functional business relationships to better align business strategy with financial budgets/forecasts. Forecast accuracy and execution is critical in this role to enable our fast-growing security business. Driving process-based improvement across functions and within Finance critical to achieve scale.Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?Mindset is crucial for success in this position. Genuine interest in technology and supporting a business that is hyper-focused on consumption and solving problems for customers is paramount.Candidate must bring integrity, high energy and logical, structured thinking to their work.Define, drive, and implement the organization's financial forecast framework that drives accountability and maximizes both accuracy and execution to plan.Be able to understand and navigate through VMware/PCS structure and within Security BU stakeholders to drive value and process improvement.Lead development and delivery of reporting and analytics for the organization regarding OpEx portfolio management, investment prioritization, and SaaS Capitalization.Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives, sometimes ad-hoc.Participate in operations reviews to ensure both short-term and long-term business plans are achieved.Make sound recommendations for improving performance and creating an environment of strong business controls.Demonstrate sound understanding of Security BU's technology offerings, customer value proposition for these offerings, as well as competitive differentiation.Active participation and collaboration in the broader PCS Finance organization; drive engagement in PCS-wide initiatives to create positive impacts.What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?Strict attention to detail and intensity around producing high quality, accurate work is required for success in this role.Candidate must be capable of independently managing multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment with a high level of precision and remaining composed under pressure.This role will require extensive business partnership and relationship-building with multiple functions including senior leaders in Engineering, Product Management, CTO, Marketing, Strategic Sourcing / Procurement, BU Finance, and Corporate Finance & Accounting. Future engagement with customer-facing SaaS Operations functions probable (Production SRE, Support/GSS, MD+R).Effectively collaborate with SBU Finance team members to understand current P&L structure and forward-looking growth and profitability projections including top-line Bookings, Revenue, and ARR models in addition to portfolio/expense management. This context is critical for being an effective Finance partner.Play leadership role in the monthly close and reforecast cycles and book accruals as required.Drive quarterly resource planning/reporting in Panorama for portfolio management, budget prioritization and SaaS capitalization purposes.Support preparation of presentation material for budget vs. actual, Monthly/Quarterly Business Reviews and Annual Planning.Work closely with accounting team to ensure expenses are properly recorded and work with business partners to understand material variances between forecast and actual results.Drive efficiencies in our processes through standardization and reporting automation. Manage the key sets of dashboards and reporting packages on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.Demonstrate the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, interpret results, and develop insightful presentations that articulate actionable recommendations to management.As an essential part of the SBU Finance team, you will be expected to be assist with ad-hoc analyses and be flexible with work hours during quarter-end and annual planning cycles.Seasoned experience with Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint required.Exposure to Hyperion Essbase, SAP Planning & BOBJ, WorkDay a plus.What is the leadership like for this role?
