cancer patients with neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment selection,
cancer survivors with surveillance, asymptomatic individuals
eligible for cancer screening and individuals at a higher risk for
developing cancer with early detection.Job DescriptionGuardant
Health is looking for an Associate Director/Director, Tax who will
contribute to the global tax operations function of a publicly
traded multinational company. You must excel in a high-energy,
focused, small-team environment; be able to communicate effectively
with cross functional teams; and have a commitment to deliver high
quality results. You will be the most senior tax professional at
Guardant and responsible for all aspects of direct and indirect tax
reporting and report to the VP Controller.Primary
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of domestic and international direct tax
matters affecting Guardant, including global income tax compliance,
income tax provision preparation and reporting, memorandums
documenting tax issues and/or positions, global transfer pricing
and tax planning (including implementation of appropriate corporate
legal structures and inter-company agreements), compliance with
U.S., state, local and international tax requirements and analysis
of potential impacts/benefits.
- Lead all processes related to transactional and indirect taxes,
including sales and use tax, business personal property tax,
withholding tax, franchise tax, unclaimed property, 1099 reporting,
VAT, etc. to ensure reporting and compliance.
- Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities to optimize
the company's tax position, improve tax efficiency and support
initiatives in scaling the tax operation function, which includes
people development, process efficiencies, tax planning
opportunities, quality improvements, and effective use of data and
technology.
- Manage 3rd party tax advisors to support key tax projects and
initiatives.
- Maintain SOX controls to effectively mitigate risk,
continuously optimize the tax close process including all related
journal entries in accordance with GAAP and assist with the
resolution of all tax related audits and/or notices.
- Build collaborative relationships across the finance
organization, including partnering with FP&A on modeling and
forecasting of tax related activities.
- Manage and consult on ad-hoc projects that impact the company's
tax exposure by partnering with finance, cross functional teams,
and/or tax advisors on new and ongoing global business initiatives
to advise on US income tax risks, opportunities and consequences
helping drive tax-efficient business decisions across the
organization.
- Assist with the preparation and review of the financial
statement disclosures in accordance with SEC and ASC 740
requirements.
- Monitor tax landscape, research and interpret, and assist with
ongoing analysis of tax positions and internal controls to identify
and address potential tax burdens and risks including the impact of
those changes on the company and its shareholders, and recommending
appropriate steps in response to such changes.
- Provide support for mergers and acquisitions, proposed and
contemplated transactions, business expansion, audits, and ad hoc
projects.
- As the Tax Department grows, supervise and mentor personnel
providing oversight and direction in relation to their workloads,
performance, and careers, assessing departmental staffing needs,
and driving talent management of the team.Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, active California
CPA and/or Master's in Taxation preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of combined experience in public accounting
and/or corporate experience in tax accounting and compliance with a
public multinational company. Biotech industry experience
preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise owning the tax accounting and compliance
functions.
- Core competency in income tax accounting (ASC 740) and
compliance including domestic and international tax reporting,
working knowledge in transfer pricing, FIN48, ASC 450, accounting
for stock-based compensation, Section 382, R&D credit, business
combination and other areas in the corporate tax environment.
- Extremely organized self-starter with the ability to function
in a highly chaotic environment and are excited to build the
future.
- Ability to communicate effectively, clearly and concisely -
also able to assess situations and ensure responses are well suited
to various business situations.
- Deep experience translating complicated issues into simple and
easy to understand terms.
- Experience working in a high pressure and fast-paced
environment using skills learned to manage resources to ensure that
projects are achieved and well managed.
- Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills, embrace tech-enabled
process and automation.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, identify, and address
complex domestic and cross-border tax matters.
- Ability to adapt to unexpected changes in timelines, deadlines,
and scope of work.
- Able to challenge the status quo respectfully and act as a
catalyst within the organization.Additional InformationCovid
