About the Staff Accountant We are seeking a mission-aligned,
detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance & Operations
team. This is an opportunity to apply your nonprofit accounting
experience in support of programs that make a meaningful difference
in our community. We are a small team, so the role is ideal for
someone who enjoys opportunities to support other members of their
department as well as staff across the organization to further our
mission. The position is based in Oakland in a flexible, hybrid
work environment where employees are required to be in the office
as needed, typically 1-3 times a week. Position Summary The Staff
Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity,
and timely completion of the organization’s financial operations.
Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant supports all
day-to-day bookkeeping, revenue tracking, accounts payable, and
reconciliation activities. This role partners closely with the
Development team to ensure proper recording of donations and with
the Impact team to ensure accurate accounting of grants distributed
by the organization. The ideal candidate brings strong
nonprofit/fund accounting experience, excellent customer service
skills, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset. As Eat. Learn.

support the overall work of the organization is important. Key
Responsibilities General Accounting & Financial Administration
Provide accurate and timely accounting services to support the
finance team’s daily operations. Maintain accounting records in
accordance with GAAP and ensure strong internal controls across all
financial processes. Support Controller with month-end
reconciliations and maintain supporting detail schedules as
requested. Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and complete special
projects, including support for reports to the Board Finance
Committee and the annual budget process. Proactively recommend and
implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and
internal controls. Accounts Payable & Vendor Management Oversee the
full accounts payable cycle. Review vendor invoices for accuracy,
compliance with approval processes, and appropriate supporting
documentation. Code and enter approved invoices into the accounting
system. Manage credit card and bank reconciliations Maintain
organized vendor files and documentation. Revenue Tracking &
Accounts Receivable Reconcile all accounts receivable and revenue
accounts on a timely basis. Issue invoices as needed and enter cash
receipts into the general ledger. Partner with the Development team
to accurately record, track, and reconcile donations, both cash and
gift-in-kind as well as both restricted and unrestricted. Grant,
Program & Inventory Accounting Work with the Impact team to ensure
proper accounting treatment of grants awarded by the organization.
Oversee warehouse inventory accounting and in partnership with the
Associate, Operations, perform reconciliations between the general
ledger and warehouse/e-commerce records. Support the Controller in
filing required reports and payments to all regulatory and taxing
authorities. Audit & Compliance Assist the Controller with
preparation for the annual audit and Form 990 filing. Ensure
documentation, schedules, and reconciliations meet auditor
requirements. Participate in required meetings; perform additional
duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting,
Finance, or related field preferred. A CPA is a plus. 2–4 years of
accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit environment. Working
knowledge of nonprofit/fund accounting principles and GAAP.
Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, QuickBooks,
NetSuite, or similar). Strong proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets
and comfort with cloud-based document systems (e.g., SharePoint).
Excellent customer service, communication skills, and a
collaborative, can-do attitude. Strong organizational skills and
attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet
