Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Dispense and Joining Rivian--is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.-- We operate development centers in Plymouth, Michigan; Southern California (Irvine, Carson & LA); Silicon Valley (San Jose and Palo Alto); Vancouver, British Columbia; and Surrey, England; as well as a manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois. This is what you'll do:

  • Be responsible for dispense (adhesive, sealer, anti-fultter, mastic) systems speficifcation, implementations and processes improvement for applications on closure, body structure and battery frame throughout project lifecycle.
  • Work with manufacturing team to ensure proper vision system implemented for different dispense applications.
  • Partner with production operations engineers and leaders to ensure successful ramp and long term production.
  • Perform continuous adhesive process optimization in current and future model production environment.
  • Provide production feedback to design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability of product without compromising functionality and performance.
  • Lead and assist production in all dispense related quality and process issues.
  • Lead and implement control plans and requirements of dispense system.
  • Asist and develop PM procedures, PFMEA, dispense system training program and champion the training practices.
  • Be responsible for and ensure safety, quality, cost, timing & throughput targets are being achieved on all projects.
  • Be part of a world-class engineering team, with a focus on high quality work and rapid project deployment.
  • Challenge assumptions that are not backed up by a thorough engineering evaluation. This is what you'll need:
    • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or similar technical fields.
    • 5+ years of hands-on experience of robot and manual dispense process design, equipment specification, configuatrion, parameter optizmaition, and in process moniotoring in automotive or related industry.
    • Extensive experience adhesive joining processes (adhesive with spot welding/SPR/FDS/RivTac, etc.).
    • Deep understanding of adhesive material, dispense process and equipment (SCA, Nordson, etc.).
    • Demonstrated experience in adhesive validations, testing, dispense systems selection, adhesive applications in steel, aluminum (sheet and extrustions) and plastic (carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CRFP)).
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experienced in working within 2D & 3D CAD environments.
    • Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing skills (Cycle time, quality control, efficiency, equipment selection, return on investment, etc.).
    • Demonstrate ability to solve complex technical problems and see the solution implemented to a high level of accuracy & quality.
    • Ability to follow general guidance on deliverables and self-guided to develop a path to completion.
    • Capable of working as a member of a team across several cross functional disciplines, including vendors.
