The Hardware Research and Technology Laboratory at PARC is a group of multi-disciplinary scientists and engineers who enjoy the opportunity to invent and develop new technologies, foster innovation, and launch new businesses. Research in HRTL includes 3D printing, sensor systems for the IoT, carbon capture technology, and applications of artificial intelligence, digital x-ray detection, robotics and much more. We are looking for Mechanical Engineer to drive research projects from conception to handoff with commercial partners by bringing expertise to the table in developing complex mechanical systems, leveraging know-how in rapid execution, and deep knowledge of especially short-run and medium-run manufacturing to research projects across a wide range of disciplines. At PARC, you'll be able to participate in technology development across all our innovation towers, including scaling up new spray systems for processing complex fluids, building prototype systems to test new ideas in metal additive manufacturing, working with complex electrochemical and fluidic systems as part of our cleantech initiatives, creating deployable devices and enclosures for new sensor networks, and work on n ovel ideas in drug delivery. In this role, you will be involved in the beginning in innovative, transformative research - building systems for initial proof of principle experiments - through initial scale up and pre-production prototypes. Responsibilities Include: Close collaboration with multidisciplinary research staff to develop innovative technology Design, construction, and debug of proof of principle experimental setups Design, construction, and debug of complex experiments and prototype Lead assessment of early cost estimates and scale-up strategies for mechanical systems Integration of electronics into mechanical systems Lead early pre-production prototype development efforts Assist in handoff to internal and external commercialization partners Requirements: PhD in Mechanical Engineering and 2 to 5 years of industrial experience or BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering and 5 to10 years of industrial experience The ability to rapidly switch between rapid proof of principle experiments and detailed design work for pre-production prototypes Knowledge of manufacturing methods such as: die and sand casting, sheet metal, injection molding, machining, and assembly Track record of product development ranging from initial idea and incubation to production and release Mechanical design skills, including knowledge of GD&T and common DFM strategies The ability to build a network of manufacturing partners globally to support efforts within PARC Excellent technical communication skills Attention to detail A desire to innovate in a cross disciplinary, fast-paced environment The ideal candidate will have experience in fast paced, startup-like product development and have firsthand experience with short run (a few hundred) to medium run (a few thousand) product runs for prototypes LI-DP1 Xerox is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, gender identity or expression, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, use of a guide dog or service animal, military/veteran status, citizenship status, basis of genetic information, or any other group protected by law.
