The Project Manager drives inputs into the Engineering design process to ensure the completion of all Installation and Field Service deliverables for the development, transition, and release of the new products and upgrades to installed products. * Position located in Palo Alto, CA, or Milpitas, CA.* Position Description Position Title: Manager, Field New Product Introduction Job Description We are looking for an energetic, self-starter with a strong desire to join our New Product Introduction (NPI) Project Management Team. The Manager for Varian's Radiation Oncology Systems (ROS) business is responsible for leading technology transitions from Engineering to Field Service as part of NPI, based in Palo Alto and other design and Manufacturing locations. The Project Manager drives inputs into the Engineering design process to ensure the completion of all Installation and Field Service deliverables for the development, transition, and release of the new products and upgrades to installed products. The Manager will: * Manage the development and deployment process of the company's Radiation Oncology Solutions products and services, with a focus on Installation and Field Service. * Coordinate and influence departmental and cross-functional teams, focused on the delivery of new products and upgrades. * Monitor and manage projects, from initiation through delivery, including planning and directing schedules and monitoring budget/spending. * Organize cross-functional activities, ensuring completion of the project's deliverables, schedule, and budget. Responsibilities * Manage a global staff of Field NPI Project Managers. * Establish partnerships with internal stakeholders and vendors to build support, secure resource allocations, and ensure alignment for project deliverables and schedule commitments. * Ensure that project plans are developed, vetted, and updated as needed. * Identify and articulate risks to project success and create mitigation plans. * Articulate the major requirements of a Field Service product rollout, identifying tracks of work across all Field Service sites for each program. * Quickly gain a strong understanding of Varian's Product Life Cycle, product release processes, requirements, Installation and Field Service requirements, and deployment processes. * Develop an understanding of Varian's engineering change process, guiding Engineering Change authors and contributors to meet committed timelines for project milestones. * For each project, facilitate discussions on critical design inputs from Global Installations and Field Service as part of the product development effort. Leverage Field Service principles (e.g., Design for X) and internal complaint requests as a basis for enhancing the Manufacturing and Field requirements/deliverables. * Coordinate, manage, and drive cross-functional input to the DfX requirements development process. * Ensure product/process quality by adhering to Varian's Quality initiatives, Product Life Cycle and regulatory standards. Work to drive new process adoption and to prevent premature product release. * Advocate and drive improvements in the Product Life Cycle process and Field Service NPI process. * Conduct project and program reviews; identify and drive process improvements. Position Requirements * BA/BS in engineering or sciences or a technical discipline; and 10+ years experience in a capital equipment Field Service environment. * 5+ years experience managing a direct staff * 7+ years demonstrated experience in Project Management-related tasks * 5+ years managing/participating in cross-functional product development * Demonstrated success in execution of complex, cross-disciplinary projects, ideally involving NPI and/or technology transitions. * 5+ years experience managing/supervising a Services function. * Proven ability to investigate open-ended problems and work cross-functionally to implement initiatives * Experience working with manufacturing of medical devices, or complex $200K+ CAPEX instrumentation. * Experience working/managing in a highly regulated environment. * Experience with SAP/ERP, ADLM systems, TFS, MS -TEAMs, Microsoft Office. * Field Service experience troubleshooting, repairing, performing Preventive Maintenance checks and/or Field Service management experience highly desirable. * Position located in Palo Alto, CA, or Milpitas, CA.
