Our mission is to support Rivian' s effort to deliver world-class electric vehicles by delivering automated manufacturing facilities with minimal development and commissioning time, that operate continuously with no unplanned downtime. We are looking for visionary, boundary breaking leaders who will be responsible for redefining the standards for manufacturing engineering automation, unlocking the potential of innovative technologies and their integration on assembly lines. As a Manager of the Automation Controls Integration Engineering team, you will lead, mentor and grow a team of highly skilled controls engineers who will create state of the art control systems to be deployed to different production lines with an edge in innovation, operator experience, and a willingness to take on ambitious automation challenges. You and your team will be responsible for the implementation of company standards and frameworks to create controls applications specific for equipment used in production verticals. Your team will provide guidance and support to our suppliers from the design phase through the start of production with thorough review of their work and coordination and documentation of acceptance tests during buyoff at the suppliers' site and after completion of commissioning. Working in synergy with suppliers and contractors, you will ensure that data propagation between components for production tracking, manufacturing systems, and diagnostics are established and validated. You will troubleshoot problems in the factory and partner with cross functional leadership across the enterprise to solve automation related challenges. Through your leadership, your team will demonstrate excellence and quality in everything performed, with a strong desire to continuously improve. You will be responsible for the deliverables of your team and to establish standards and best practices for deployment, conformance, and auditing of new and existing systems, make pragmatic, data-driven decision, and clearly articulate reasoning. In collaboration with our platform development team you will propose and develop new strategies to push automation whenever possible and improve the development, configuration, and deployment time of new work cells. Together, you will architect and implement software and robotics solutions aimed at high-performance and extensibility, ensure that we deploy safe automation solutions with best practices and security, dissect and reimplement manufacturing device communication protocols to achieve new integrations, and redefine and innovate automation and robotic solutions in the manufacturing industries. THIS IS WHAT YOU'LL NEED: 5+ years of experience managing contractors and suppliers of automation projects from concept design through production release. 5+ years professional experience as a control engineer designing, implementing, and evolving high-performance automation solutions. 5+ years of experience managing high performance teams. Expert understanding of distributed data systems and trade-offs. Familiarity with common controls hardware used in advanced, high-volume manufacturing. Experience understanding and implementing modular, reusable code for programming Rockwell, Beckhoff, Siemens, or similar PLCs. Experience with front end screen design, including use of reusable templates, for equipment HMIs using Ignition, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Wonderware, TwinCAT HMI, or similar. Experience developing and interpreting electrical schematics using EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar. Knowledge of industrial safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA). Knowledge of industrial electrical standards (NFPA79, NEC, UL508A). NICE TO HAVE: MS or PhD in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent - Majors in: Controls and Computer Control Systems, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.) Experience with one or more segments of the automotive manufacturing process (stamping, body in white, general assembly, powertrain, paint, plastics, etc.) Knowledge of communications between machine PLCs and relational databases. Experience programming industrial 6-axis robots such as Fanuc, Kawasaki, ABB, Kuka, etc. is preferred. Experience developing machine vision applications (Keyence, Cognex, Halcon, etc.) Experience with Git revision control. Experience interfacing manufacturing equipment with factory software systems (MES, data collection, etc.).
