Summer internship (pharmaceutical sciences) in the Hardware Research and Technology Lab The Hardware Research and Technology Lab (HRTL) is a group of scientists and engineers with a passion for identifying future hardware needs and a history of innovation in creating new technologies to meet those needs. Our current research is focused primarily on printed electronics, 3D printing, MEMS, displays, amorphous and polycrystalline silicon systems, x-ray imaging, optoelectronic semiconductors, visible and UV lasers and LEDs, compact optical sensing systems, life-science instrumentation, and clean tech technologies. We enjoy the opportunity to publish externally and engage in strategic research with a variety of partners, from start-ups to the Fortune 50. HRTL currently has an opening for a summer internship working in the Autonomous Systems & Life Science group. We are planning a 6-16 week research project in which the successful candidate will be working on f ormulation development of 3D printed pharmaceutical products and laboratory testing . About the Job The ideal candidate will join and work with a team at PARC that is exploring the application of a variety of 3D printing strategies for drug development and overcoming drug formulation challenges in solid oral dosage forms. Proactive attention to detail, literature research, and input into the project plan are encouraged. Responsibilities As a member of the project, the intern responsibilities will include (but not limited to) the following: Identifying formulation challenges for selected solid oral dosage forms and narrow down API/excipient material sets that are presented with those challenges. Work with the team to learn using various printing technologies and combine that learning with formulation knowledge to design and fabricate solid oral dosage forms in the laboratory setting. Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of various materials and perform dissolution/drug release studies in formulation development. Contribute ideas to the technical feasibility of the proposed strategies and help with systematic evaluation in the lab. Analyze and present results on regular basis in form of presentation or reports. Requirements The ideal candidate is a graduate student in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, or science-based discipline with drug formulation emphasis. Passionate towards learning new skills and enthusiastic about creating and demonstrating novel ideas and systems. An organized and flexible individual with high attention to detail. Excellent communication skills.
