Job Description:
The Surgery Scheduler I maintains scheduling for surgical
procedures for assigned department(s). Coordinates surgical
services with physicians' offices, and other related departments
and verifies equipment availability. The Surgery Scheduler I is
responsible for documentation of patient's procedure, and physician
information; log of completed surgeries and procedures; and
generation of surgical procedure charge sheets. Performs additional
associated duties as requested by manager, while simultaneously
ensuring the accuracy of the surgery schedule.Principal
Accountabilities: Schedules surgeries and specialized procedures or
testing efficiently and effectively Confirms scheduled surgeries
against surgeons allotted times, room availability, equipment and
supply requirements Schedules surgical procedures using
organization's protocols for scheduling block time or open
availability and enters data into an established database
Organizes, reschedules and updates changes made to schedules, may
need to provide follow up calls to patients and provide rescheduled
dates imes Coordinates open clinic times when physician does not
have scheduled surgical cases Documents all procedures scheduled
accurately and according to department protocols Ensures accurate
coordination of authorizations prior to scheduled procedures
Collaborates with department staff and providers to ensure all
necessary equipment and/or vendors are requested Verifies and
coordinates insurance eligibility and referrals for patients based
on department requirements Facilitates transfer of patients for
appropriate services when needed Provides treatment instructions
other related information , as needed. Performs other clerical
support as assigned which may included but not limited to ;
Participates with training of new hires within the department
Provides ownership of specialized projects or reports based on
assigned department Performs additional duties which may include
floating to other related areas for support Orders appropriate
supplies and stocks appropriate work stations. Can make requests
for supplies and purchase items through authorized vendors if
required by department.Qualifications: Education:High school
diploma or GED or equivalent education/experience
required.Experience: At least 6 months to 1 year of recent Patient
Service Representative, back office medical assistant or
hospital/clinical scheduling experience preferrerd.Skills &
Knowledge: Knowledge of insurance billing codes and medical
terminology preferred Familiar with insurance companies procedures,
and protocols preferred Strong organizational and multi-tasking
skills Intermediate computer skills to include keyboarding, mouse
movement, data entry and scheduling programs. Verbal written
communication skills for frequent and challenging contact with
physicians, employees, patients and patient families; requires
patience and compassion. Ability to effectively organize and
prioritize tasks in order to complete assignments within the time
allotted and maintain standard workflow. Ability to work with
others in a flexible, cooperative manner. Ability to maintain
composure during challenging interpersonal interactions. Strong
active listening skills; including excellent interpersonal skills
and telephone communication. Applies moderate mental application
and concentration to handle multiple procedures and interruptions
throughout the day. Bilingual in one other language is desired for
this role to better serve the community and patient population
preferred
