Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse, following the scope and standards of
professional nursing practice, provides comprehensive
patient-family centered care addressing potential and actual health
and illness problems for patients and families.
A Registered Nurse, who, under the supervision of the Nurse
Manager/ Director, has continual opportunity to exercise initiative
and independent professional judgment, uses the nursing process to
provide comprehensive patient centered nursing care for assigned
patients; and as a primary member of a nursing care team, guides
and monitors work of paraprofessional and other team members. This
care is performed as a part of a customer focused, service oriented
team that incorporates the values of Mills Peninsula Health
Services in a confidential environment. The Registered Nurse
integrates the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and the Patients' Bill
of Rights, Professional Scope and Standards of Practice and
pertinent Specialty Standards into his or her nursing practice.
Job Description:
These Principal Accountabilities, Requirements and Qualifications

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provides care to a defined patient/family assignment:
--- Utilizes the nursing process and standards of nursing practice
to deliver care for assigned patients. The process includes
assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation,
outcomes identification and care coordination of the medical
(dependent) and nursing (independent) plan of care for patient and
family
--- Creates and maintains an individualized Care plans formulated
in collaboration with the patient and family/ and other disciplines
to meet the goals of the care event (hospital stay or episode of
care).
--- Provides comprehensive nursing care that includes, but is not
limited to, physical care, provision of a safe environment,
emotional support and administration of prescribed medications,
intravenous therapy, and providing health care education as
indicated.
--- Patient-centered and responsive to patient/family needs,
including those who are not directly assigned
--- Engages in continuous patient/family education while providing
care
--- Ensures patient/family understands discharge instructions and
plan for next level of service.
--- Care is age appropriate
Communications:
--- Communicates and documents the patient's response to the plan
of care. Consistently evaluates and updates the care plan,
informing others of changes in patient response in timely and
assertive manner.
--- Acts to resolve patient care issues in manner that is patient
centered, and upholds ethical standards of practice while
supporting team members.
--- Understands the need to continually evaluate and reassess
patient care problems and contributes to this dynamic process.
--- Keeps current with department/organization communications to
participate in the work environment
--- Communications are effective and professional at all times
--- Completes documentation timely to facilitate team member access
to information
--- Maintains confidentiality of patient data
Collaboration: Coordinates care of other professional Disciplines
and Supervises Nursing Care performed by Ancillary care team.
--- Implements the medical and nursing care plans by performing
direct care /or delegating tasks as appropriate, which are
fundamental to nursing practice in an acute care setting.
--- Coordinates the care of the patient through referrals, direct
and indirect communication, participation in rounds and care
conferences with physicians and other disciplines.
--- Contributes positively to the department work environment,
serves as Charge RN and other unit roles as eligible, participates
in unit governance.
Professional Development
--- Identifies own learning needs and pursues ongoing
self-development to maintain competency in clinical skills through
continued education and professional growth.
--- Demonstrates ongoing development toward attainment of
proficiency in core competencies of the department.
--- Expresses understanding of current health care concepts and
teach same to patient/families and other staff members
--- Completes mandatory education by deadline and maintains current
licensure and certifications.

EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required
degree or diploma.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
RN-Registered Nurse of California
Management of Assaultive Behavior certification
OR BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
Certification in Specialty
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
Sufficient previous clinical experience in nursing
Staff Nurse II: Registered Nurse who has completed a total of
twelve full-time months nursing experience in an acute hospital or
comparable clinical area within the last three years.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the pathophysiology, common treatments, medications,
complications and prevention strategies for area of clinical
practice
Knowledge of QSEN Competencies: Quality and Patient Safety
Education core nursing competencies
Thorough knowledge of nursing process and/or surgical
procedures
Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and
physiology
Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills to
promote effective with patient/families and staff interactions
Able to navigate electronic health record (EHR) and successfully
complete competency
Intravenous treatments, wound care and medication administration
skills at competent level
Demonstrates flexibility , self-motivation
Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written
English
Must have visual and hearing acuity
Pay Range: $72.48 - $98.09/ Hourly
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted
range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted
for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where
the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several
factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience,
education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity,
training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of
the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles
also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
