These tests fuel development of its LUNAR program, which aims to address the needs of early stage cancer patients with neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment selection, cancer survivors with surveillance, asymptomatic individuals eligible for cancer screening and individuals at a higher risk for developing cancer with early detection.Job DescriptionTo enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer treatments through non-invasive cancer screening, the Technology Development Team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to help drive teams to test and validate novel technologies for rare variant studies with next-generation sequencing in a highly regulated environment. At Guardant, we leverage the most advanced technologies and work with leaders in many different fields to create the most impactful and meaningful technologies for cancer management.As a Senior Scientist in the Technology Development Team, you will work with members within the team and interface with multiple teams including process engineering, clinical operations, research operations, and bioinformatics. You will be required to design, implement, and validate new technologies with rigorous documentation practices related to liquid biopsy sequencing assays for the early detection, treatment, and monitoring of all cancer types. You will also be an experienced leader with abilities to keep timelines on track within project teams of direct and indirect reports. The position will start in Redwood City and eventually move to Palo Alto, CA within the year.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative NGS-based oncology assays and critically evaluate NGS experimental data to guide experimental planning and prioritization
  • Be able to work in a team environment and independently to develop, test and validate technologies for rare variant studies with next-generation sequencing with rigorous and thorough documentation practices
  • Think creatively and apply knowledge to design validation experiments, troubleshoot and analyze data for NGS applications in oncology diagnostics
  • Document product development requirements and system and subsystem level verification and validation protocols and results
  • Work in both CLIA/CAP and FDA-regulated environments---Present data, proposals, and progress in various forums
  • Be a highly committed and deliver results in a fast-paced start-up environment.Qualifications
    • PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field with 3-5yrs Industry experience
    • MS with 8-10yrs of industry experience in the pharmaceutical field
    • Experience with development under the FDA regulated environment (i.e. Design control) is a must
    • Deep technical knowledge of NGS library preparation, target enrichment, and rigorous product development practices
    • Extensive experience in assay set up, reagent development and experimental design of nucleic acids technologies with a preference for sequencing-based assays
    • Analytical mindset to dissect complex problems, develop hypotheses, test them, synthesize results to make decisions
    • Strong data analysis skills using Python or R analytical tools with the experience in handling large datasets.
    • Experience with bioinformatics analysis of NGS data is a plus, knowledge of types of bioinformatics analysis performed for NGS-based diagnostics
    • Excellent interdisciplinary communication skills required
    • Good organization skills, detail orientated, document/communicate scientific data.
    • Self-driven and strong team player with proven track record
