Part-Time Group Leader for Galileo At Home

Company: Galileo Learning
Location: Palo Alto
Posted on: September 16, 2020

Job Description:

Passionate about working with and having an impact on kids? Believe the world needs innovators? Ready to have a career-defining experience learning the high-demand skill of hands-on program development? Have a love for art, science, outdoor play, team-building or K-5 education? Consider a role with our new Galileo At Home program! PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Due to COVID-19, we're offering a limited at-home program focused on safety, social-emotional learning, and-in true Galileo fashion-pure camp joy. Galileo-At-Home supports families with stable groups of 2-8 campers grades K-5 (that otherwise remain physically distanced from other groups). Each group will have a designated outdoor base at one family's home where campers can spread out and partake in the day's activities. Areas will be big enough for physical distancing and all recommended safety protocols will be followed such as staff and campers wearing masks, frequent handwashing, and health screenings. A consistent staff member will lead campers in fun games and hands-on activities that encourage them to use the GIA, and support up to 1 hour of schoolwork (if requested by families). Each session will operate for 3-4 hours a day, 3 days a week over 4 weeks. POSITION OVERVIEW In the new Group Leader role, you'll have the unique opportunity to participate in the launch of our exciting new in-person, at-home pod groups to support families during the pandemic. Group Leader positions (both assigned and floating) are a new blend of traditional Galileo Team Leader and Lead Instructor roles. They are responsible for bringing the GIA to life for each camper. The Group Leader will help bring joy and wonder to kids in this unusual time. This responsibility requires careful attention to the physical and emotional safety of each and every camper within a team, and to the overall development and formation of the group as a whole. We value having divergent thinkers who bring various experiences and viewpoints to the table at Galileo. We strongly encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply. ABOUT GALILEO Galileo's mission is to develop innovators who envision and create a better world. We know it's bold. We also know that we can't achieve it without asking staff to be role models of an innovator's mindset-visionary, courageous, collaborative, determined and reflective. It's not always easy. Camp staffers work hard, and bring camp magic to life-for campers, and for themselves. This isn't your average, kid-focused gig. Galileans are expected to take ownership of their own performance and make this place better every day. People with a can-do attitude thrive here and those with a victim mentality don't. We manage to keep this level of performance expectation high in a relaxed environment; we take our work, not ourselves, seriously. Galileans know what it means to be a vital part of a team. Galileans want to grow. Galileans like to have fun at work. Galileans love sharing in-and helping to create-joyful experiences. After all, we run great camps. You get the point. WHAT YOU'LL GET Purposeful work on an innovative team, along with the opportunity to expand upon or develop hands-on program iteration skills. Plus, you'll be a part of a supportive community that stands for innovation, credibility, and expertise. We're a certified B Corporation that is ranked #1 on the Best Places to Work in the Bay Area, were named one of Forbes' Best Small Companies and a Top 100 Impact Company, and are authentically committed to inclusion and equity company-wide-which includes joyfully upholding a robust financial assistance program.
