As a product owner you will be the center of every development cycle. You will be responsible for maximizing the value of products created by your scrum development team. To accomplish this, you will be playing several roles including but not limited to product definer, designer, customer liaison, and project manager. You will be working on a product, built on SAP ABAP NetWeaver and SAP HANA with SAP Fiori and Microsoft Excel based user interfaces, offered as a cloud service, that is successful and has ~900 large enterprise customers who tremendously value stability, scalability, reliability, performance, usability, integration, and quality.

How You Might Contribute

  • Lead in many areas of product development. One day you will need to access your depth of domain/product knowledge to strategize and present your vision to stakeholders. Another day your will need to roll up your developer sleeves to help the team meet their goals during a sprint.
  • Communicate with stakeholders across the board, including customers, chief product owners, product managers, and the development team to make sure the goals are clear, and the vision is aligned with business objectives.
  • Balance the triangle of scope, budget, and time, weighing priorities according to the needs and objectives of stakeholders.
  • Gauge which areas have flexibility to determine how and when each iteration and product features will be developed while your stakeholders give you conflicting goals and coerce you to deliver more.
  • A key responsibility will be managing the product backlog; in other words, the development team’s to-do list.
  • Overseeing actual development of product throughout each event, including planning, refinement, review, D-gates, and sprint.
  • Accountable for each stage of the development process and the final product. You will take a primary role in inspecting and evaluating product progress through each iteration.
  • Adjudicate performance, usability, quality, supportability, and decide whether the team needs to go back to drawing board, can move on to next steps, or whether the feature is ready for general availability.

A Successful Candidate Should

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent. Master’s degree, MBA, or PhD a plus but not required.
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise-grade business application design. Quote some examples in your application.
  • 4+ years of experience with defining and building resilient, reliable, and scalable foundations for flexible planning systems.
  • 4+ years of experience with demand planning and/or supply planning.
  • 3+ years of experience in project management.
  • Ability to communicate with non-technical customers (internal and external) and technical scrum teams.
  • Have a higher perspective to ensure that the team maintains a cohesive vision despite the flexible and often fast-paced nature of agile product development without sacrificing quality.
  • Ability to work with many actors who will push and pull the product in incongruent directions.
  • Able to create a space and environment your scrum team needs to perform optimally and sustain deliveries with acceptable quality, release after release at the frequency of 4 releases per year.
  • Desire to drive definition, design, and delivery of a product that you and your scrum team can be proud of and customers are delighted to use will be key.
  • This role is slated for an internal transfer / external hiring and we look forward to your application.
  • The manager is able to consider locations that include Palo Alto (preferred) or San Ramon.
