We do this by: Fundraising for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, and the maternal and child health programs of Stanford University School of Medicine Raising awareness of children's health issues Promoting a system of care that improves the lives of children with special health care needs and their families

We are on a mission to raise money for Packard Childrens to deliver the very best clinical care and for the School of Medicine to harness the power of Stanford science to help children and their families. Dedicated staff, visionary leadership, a passionate board, and a generous community of donors and patient families make this work possible.

Our board, comprised of 27 members, enables us to extend our reach into the community we serve, fundraise for clinical and research needs, and advocate for child and maternal health. They are essential to our continued success.


LPFCH seeks a relationship-driven professional who is highly-collaborative with exceptional project management skills to join our team as the new Associate Director of Board Relations. This individual will join a dynamic and fast-growing organization that is enabling a future with better outcomes for kids and moms by harnessing the clinical care of Packard Childrens and the research discoveries of the Stanford School of Medicine.

This position plays an essential role in cultivating a sophisticated board experience that is critical to achieving our ambitious goals to unlock philanthropy. We are building a diverse board that is highly engaged in our mission and has a sense of shared ownership in our success. The Associate Director is key to ensuring each board member has an outstanding experience and that board service to be viewed as the premier volunteer opportunity in the Bay Area.

As a member of the Presidents Office, the Associate Director will work in close partnership with the Associate Vice President of Board Relations, the President & CEO, and Chief of Staff to support the development, administration, and activities of the board. The Associate Director will collaborate across the organization to create a best-in-class board relations program. This position provides a unique, insider view to the operations of the organization and its vision for the future.

Due to COVID-19, employees of LPFCH are working remotely through August of 2021 (subject to extension as circumstances warrant). Once the office reopens, this candidate will need to be within a reasonable commute distance. This position will offer work requiring weekly in-office attendance and remote work.

Partner with the AVP, Board Relations on developing, planning, and executing all aspects of board and committee meetings and retreats:
Coordinate with the Board Chair, Committee Chairs, CEO, and staff liaisons to develop meeting content, communications, and materials Produce materials (e.g. agendas, pre-reads, presentations, talking points, briefings, run-of-show, technical agendas, evaluations, etc.) collaborating across the organization to compile information; research and track topics and potential speakers Document proceedings for all meetings Track motions and action items, and proactively drive forward tasks resulting from board and committee meetings Set the board calendar and manage board and committee meetings, including all logistics and execution in-person and virtually Support the development of practices, tools, and resources to help shape an inclusive culture on the board Manage sensitive, highly confidential, and proprietary information with discretion and the utmost level of confidentiality
Project Management , 30%
Manage and contribute to the CEOs outreach strategies with current and former board members of the Foundation and hospital boards to maintain and deepen relationships; manage ongoing communications and interactions between meetings Contribute to and, in some cases, own the creation of materials for the CEOs board and committee meetings and meetings with directors of the board Manage the process for development, implementation, and tracking of board impact plans, including convening internal strategy sessions and scheduling individual meetings with board members Monitor board membership, terms, renewals, and committee assignments, and the pipeline of future candidates; track and plan for leadership succession Make recommendations on committee assignments based on board member terms, expertise, and committee composition Support the research, recruitment, and onboarding of new board members Execute the comprehensive onboarding plan including board book, orientation session, and mentor program Enhance the board experience by researching, deploying, and maintaining a new board platform or website Shares and seeks feedback and operationalizes opportunities for improvement
Administrative Execution , 20%
Maintain records for all current and former board members of the Foundation and hospital boards within Raisers Edge Draft communication on behalf of the CEO, staff liaisons, and AVP including emails, thank you notes, and other correspondence Plan and implement policies and procedures to enhance and improve the systems and processes related to the board Monitor and plan the section of the Office of the President's budget pertaining to the Board Develop a deep understanding of the boards governance, i.e., Bylaws, Committee Charters, Conflict of Interest Policy, etc. to facilitate and support oversight responsibilities Performs other related duties as assigned by the AVP, CEO, and Chief of Staff


Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience 8+ years of work experience including one or more of the following experiences: Managing or supporting an executive to manage a board Managing programs or events that cater to high wealth individuals, donors, and/or executive leadership
Experience working in a complex fundraising environment resulting in an understanding of the strategy and mechanics of major- and principal-gift fundraising and donor relations Experience partnering with executive leadership, board members, or volunteers Prior experience with Raisers Edge or other nonprofit database software
