The Mechanical and Fluid Systems group is looking for exceptional summer interns to contribute to PARC's research activities in advanced manufacturing(AM) and 3D Printing. AM is a rapidly developing field that promises to revolutionize the manufacturing industry by allowing for rapid prototyping and freeform structures that can't be made any other way. 3D printers have become commonplace pieces of equipment in manufacturing, especially for producing polymer components. The current challenge is finding effective ways to replicate that ubiquity for higher temperature materials such as metals and ceramics. We are investigating novel methods for production of metal, ceramic, and multi-material components through additive manufacturing. Responsibilities : Formulate feedstock inks for PARC's additive manufacturing efforts Design and create test components for printing and post-processing (sintering and/or annealing) Characterize samples through mechanical testing and microstructural analysis Qualifications : Currently enrolled in a Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent curriculum Prerequisites are classes covering materials processing and mechanical behavior Hands-on experience with mechanical testing and microstructural analysis methods such as tensile testing, hardness testing, optical microscopy and SEM Understanding of phase diagrams, stress/strain curves, and statistics Xerox is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, gender identity or expression, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, use of a guide dog or service animal, military/veteran status, citizenship status, basis of genetic information, or any other group protected by law.
