Job Summary Performs a variety of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures on patients using high field strength magnets and related equipment. Performs MRI imaging sequences necessary to reach a medical diagnosis and decision. Works under the guidance of Radiologists; participates in resident training program and may be responsible for specific areas of instruction in the training of Radiology students, house staff, or others, in MRI procedures, protocols, and equipment and/or safety issues. Bills all procedures performed and maintain necessary paperwork. Essential Functions 1. Obtains quality images for medical diagnosis by performing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures as directed by a physician by using appropriate technical factors and scanning techniques 2. Prepares patients for MRI exam: explains procedure, ensures that patient screening form is properly completed, safely transfers patient to MRI equipment, properly positions patient and assists patient on completion of exam; completes exams in the required timeframe. 3. Acquires and Processes Images in accordance with the department standards. Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of exposure and label appropriately. 4. Performs and remains current on all scanning protocols. 5. Troubleshoots equipment problems and when necessary report to the proper personnel for repair. 6. Utilizes ancillary equipment appropriately: PACS system, laser camera, MedRad power injector, Radiology Information Systems (RIS), and Invivo monitor. 7. Assists in the training of Radiology students, house staff, or others, in MRI procedures, protocols, and equipment and/or safety issues 8. Bills all procedures performed and maintain necessary paperwork. Qualified applicants with criminal convictions will be considered after an individualized assessment of the conviction and the job requirements.Minimum QualificationsEducation--- Satisfactory completion of a JCERT (Joint Review Committee on Education of Radiologic Technologist) approved Radiologic technology programExperience--- Two years of directly related work experience License/CertificationCRT-Certified Technologist by the state of California Department OF Health Service in Radiology or ARRT- The American Registry Radiology Technologist or ARMRIT American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging TechnologistsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities --- Knowledge of Magnetic resonance imaging techniques, methods, and equipment--- Knowledge of general radiographic techniques, methods, and equipment--- Knowledge of Magnetic resonance imaging physics, physiology, structural and organic anatomy including cross-sectional anatomy--- Knowledge of Magnetic Resonance Angiography procedures --- Knowledge of methods of positioning patients for magnetic resonance imaging procedures--- Knowledge of safety principles and procedures relating to magnetic resonance imaging. --- Ability to troubleshoot, document and communicate equipment problems--- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and visitors--- Ability to deal tactfully and sympathetically with patients--- Ability to follow written and oral instructions Physical RequirementsMust be able to stand for prolonged periods of time; requires ability to bend, stoop, and stretch frequently. Must be able to move and manipulate heavy equipment; carry cassettes and film files. Must be able to push wheelchairs, gurneys and beds and move patients between them and exam table.
