Position Summary

VMware's Cloud Services Business Unit (CSBU) is seeking an experienced Sr. Manager R&D to lead the VMware Cloud on Dell EMC SDDC and Networking engineering team located primarily in Palo Alto, CA.

VMware Cloud on Dell EMC combines the simplicity and agility of the public cloud with the security and control of on-premises infrastructure, delivered as-a-service to data center and edge locations. VMware Cloud on Dell EMC takes VMware's industry-standard SDDC platform and integrates it with Dell EMC's enterprise-class VxRail hyper-converged infrastructure, delivering the combined hardware and software offering as-a-service to data center and edge locations. This fully managed VMware service provides simple, secure, and scalable infrastructure for customer's on-premises datacenter and edge locations. This unique approach empowers you to focus on business innovation and differentiation, while VMware operates the entire infrastructure end-to-end.

VMC on Dell went GA at the end of September 2020 and is since experiencing exponential growth. As a member of this team, you will play a key role in understanding customer use cases and defining the end-to-end behavior of the solution. This solution involves a highly scalable SaaS service, an easy to use on-prem hyper converged infrastructure (HCI) developed in partnership with Dell and integrated with industry leading VMware infrastructure products - vSphere, vSAN, NSX and our SD-WAN solution Velocloud. This person will be responsible for all aspects of engineering leadership - building the team, delivering product and releases, establishing quality focused SDLC processes, partnering with stake holders and supporting customers.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the SDDC, Networking and Lifecycle Management aspects of the product offering.
• Become the subject matter expert and truly understand what customers need from this solution. Understand different subsystems and bring them together to form a meaningful solution to the customer.
• Collaborate with project team members and cross-functional product teams. Work closely with team to understand product changes, involve in product design, implementation, deployment, scale and monitoring.
• Deliver multiple releases of products with a high degree of complexity, requiring collaboration across large organizations
• Work closely with product management team to obtain prompt resolution to key business issues likely to impact product release schedules, product requirements, product quality, and business operations.
• Work on building the team, recruitment, retention, mentoring, career development and leading geo distributed teams. Lead by example, creating a sense of energy, ownership, and personal commitment to the work
• Focus on Product Quality and Velocity of software delivery, facilitating Agile and scrum process with emphasis on a metrics driven, continuous improvement of the SDLC.
• Embody principles of service ownership, be a champion for continuous delivery and test automation

Qualifications and Experience

• 10+ years of progressively broadening enterprise systems software development leadership experience with a strong track record of success in the architecture, development, and delivery of highly complex, enterprise class software
• Experience organizing a product development function for growth in a highly competitive cloud first markets. Experience taking new products to market, nurturing their growth, understanding the market.
• Has inherent knowledge of development processes and best practices to manage multiple, large scale, and co-dependent software development projects consistently on time and on budget.
• Experience working with customers, escalations, upgrades, resolving customer problems, using that feedback to make the product better
• Experience with SaaS and on-premise products, using and developing large scale networking and distributed systems. Understanding of one or more of the key areas of the solution like Distributed Computing, Networking, Storage and Virtualization. Experience with VMware Products, like VMware Cloud, vSphere, vSAN, NSX, VxRail.
• Experience in automating, orchestrating and running large scale IaaS systems are a plus.
• Demonstrated track record of implementing agile, quality first, product development processes that shorten release cycles and improve quality and "time to market".
• Proven leadership experience setting the vision and building, leading, and motivating development teams.
