The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the research lab for Lockheed Martin Space. We are looking for an Astrophysics Senior Manager to provide leadership of the Astrophysics group within the Space Science and Instrumentation directorate at the ATC. This includes creating, finding, pursuing, developing, and capturing business with governmental organizations in the areas of Astrophysics, technology development, and other space-related work. We will look for you to developing and execute a broad strategy to grow Lockheed Martin's Astrophysics business and market share.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing instruments for Astrophysics science missions
  • Identifying and engaging Principal Investigators to develop highly driven teams for science missions and technology development opportunities
  • Developing and presenting messages, marketing, competition assessments, and customer insights
  • Leading business development, capture, and proposal teams
  • Preparing and submitting proposals, ROMS, RFI/RFQ responses, and white papers
  • Coordinating study efforts having the potential to evolve into new business capture opportunities
  • Maintaining high-value contact with Astrophysics partners and user communities through leadership and participation on committees, advisory boards, workshops, and conferences
  • Successfully collaborating and maintaining effective working relationships within our directorate, the ATC, lines of business across LM Space, and Lockheed Martin Government Affairs
  • Building and maintaining a positive and productive work environment
  • Recruiting, developing, inspiring, and growing a strong and cohesive team

We are looking for someone who is adept at developing, leading and executing Research and Development projects and seeking opportunities for contract funding to advance technologies for Astrophysics missions and have broad applicability to space missions.

You would typically have a PhD and 15+ years of professional experience, or a Masters and 18+ years.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Astrophysics or related science or engineering discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience directly working on science instrumentation programs
  • Experience presenting highly technical material to non-technical audiences, including customers and executives
  • Experience translating science/end user requirements into engineering requirements to support relevant scientific and technical efforts
