Job Title: Communications Specialist Department: Loma Prieta Chapter Reports to: Chapter Director Location: Palo Alto, CA and remotely within our chapter Context: Closely collaborates with chapter staff to advance the goals of the Bay 2030 Campaign, the Loma Prieta Chapter's ten-year campaign to protect and restore the San Francisco Bay and other goals of the Chapter through the design and implementation of communications and media strategy and messaging. Scope: The Communications Manager is responsible for leading the Chapter's overall communications strategy and messaging, with a primary focus on the Chapter's Bay 2030 Campaign while also supporting the full range of the chapter conservation action campaigns, public education projects, and other activities. This includes digital communications (web, social media, email, and Chapter Newsletter) and press relations. Job Activities: In close collaboration with the Bay 2030 Campaign Manager and Chapter Director, lead development and implementation of media strategy for the full range of chapter conservation action campaigns, public education projects and other activities. Lead development and preparation of chapter publications, fact sheets, and other communication materials for conservation action campaigns and public education projects in close collaboration with the Bay 2030 Campaign Manager and Development Coordinator. Develop press strategy, successfully pitching stories and press releases and representing the Loma Prieta Chapter to the press. Acts as a senior advisor and coordinates media responses on Chapter issues. Develops and updates media lists. Organizes and maintains media clips for the Chapter. Closely collaborates with Chapter staff and volunteer team to design, and promote action alerts to our members and supporters. Leads overall design and implementation of the monthly online newsletter to members and supporters, including coordinating all content and production. Responsible for project-managing the Chapter's website, including overseeing the look, functionality and content of the Chapter website and related conservation campaign websites, ensuring alignment with overall Chapter goals and programs. Develops social media strategy, coordinating with chapter staff and volunteers to ensure effective implementation. Coordinates and produces content for an annual report to members and supporters. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Knowledge and Skills: 3-5 years of experience as a communications manager or specialist. Experience working with an advocacy campaign or organization highly desired. Excellent, demonstrated public/media relations skills and ability to communicate well with writers, editors, and publishers. Strong verbal, excellent editing and written communications skills. Highly proficient in social media and digital marketing software including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email marketing systems. Experience with Salesforce and action alerts highly desired. Demonstrated familiarity and passion for conservation and environmental issues including San Francisco Bay. Collaborative colleague who seeks input from peers, works well in a team environment and would thrive in a grassroots-based organization, often working closely with volunteer leaders. Strong work ethic, including an experienced project manager with experience working under deadlines. Fluency in one or more of the following a plus: Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and Progressive Workers Union.
