Community Engagement AssociatePeninsula Open Space Trust (POST) is looking for a candidate to join our team as a Community Engagement Associate. Working in support of POST's Community Engagement programs, you'll support in-person and virtual public event communication and coordination. This includes research projects, database organization, assistance with event planning and execution, and other projects as requested. You will also help to coordinate our POST Ambassador program activities. This position is full time and reports to the Senior Manager of Community Engagement and will collaborate with many on POST's staff. This is a terrific opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector with a nationally-recognized land conservation organization. The Community Engagement Associate will have excellent exposure to local land conservation efforts and gain hands-on experience with community programming, marketing practices related to inbound marketing/demand generation, social marketing, event coordination, and volunteer coordination. You will also acquire knowledge of tools such as Salesforce, marketing and email automation systems, cloud-based media platform and web content management tools.POST is currently a combined remote and hybrid workplace, and our policy regarding hybrid work schedules continues to evolve. We expect to maintain flexibility regarding schedules and hybrid working arrangements, although this particular role is not eligible for 100% remote work and requires residency in our geographic area.In this role you will:

  • Set up, plan and coordinate online and in-person events including publishing online registration and event pages, drafting pre & post event emails, promote events through a variety of channels, track metrics using our Salesforce database, handle photo processing and other event related tasks.
  • Coordinate our monthly POST-organized, volunteer-led outings on the land including event setup, volunteer coordination, and guest communications.
  • Be a customer service lead fielding incoming questions and issues related to events, as well as general community inquiries related to POST's community engagement activities.
  • Staff in-person events as appropriate with COVID-19 safety protocols in mind.
  • Provide support for the POST Ambassador volunteer program including scheduling, materials distribution, data entry, as well as helping with volunteer onboarding, communication and engagement activities.
  • Support the development of content for the volunteer community and community at large.
  • Work some nights and weekends on a regular basis to staff events; this position is eligible for overtime pay, and care is taken to manage schedule flexibility and work/life balance.To succeed in this role, you will need to have:

    • Great interpersonal skills with an interest in and enjoyment of interacting with people
    • An interest in building a diverse community to support our local lands
    • Strong computer skills and are able to learn new systems
    • Willingness to manage some repetitive administrative tasks
    • Some experience running live or online events
    • Prior experience with volunteer coordination is helpful, but not required
    • Ability to take initiative and produce desired results
    • An interest in keeping track of details as well as identifying systems and process improvements to make our team more efficient and impactful
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • 1-3 years of related work experience (transferable skills & experience will be considered)This job has the following physical requirements:
      • This is an active position where you will need to be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
      • You will sometimes be required to hike or walk over semi-rough terrain, and will need the ability to traverse uneven or rough terrain and to tolerate exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions.
      • The ability to conduct regular and accurate communication with others involving the use of phone, computer, web, and video technologies, as well as the ability to easily communicate in person at events with a wide range of people.
      • The ability to interact effectively with digital and printed materials, and to operate required job-related equipment to complete office tasks like computers and copiers.
      • You must have a valid driver's license and insurable driving record, and be willing and able to drive to and from events as well as drive a vehicle to remote locations.
      • You must live within a reasonable driving distance to POST lands on the San Francisco Peninsula and in the South Bay.
      • Be willing to attend to occasional duties that occur outside regular working hours.
