Senior Internal Communications SpecialistCooley is seeking a Senior Internal Communications Specialist to join the Marketing & Business Development team.Position summary: Under the supervision of the Lead Internal Communications Manager, the Senior Internal Communications Specialist will focus on ideating, developing and leading on the drafting and review of internal communications for Cooley's business and litigation departments, especially leadership messaging, through variety of mediums, written and visual. The role will work closely with the full communications team, the wider marketing department and lawyers around the firm to support Cooley's full spectrum of content, media and other related marketing, branding and reputational activities. The overarching goal is to amplify Cooley's distinctive brand and culture through internal communications. Work is defined by the goals, objectives and policies of the marketing department.Position responsibilities: Communications:

  • Evaluate proposed messaging, balance project goals and firmwide initiatives and priorities, ensuring messaging is purposeful and impactful
  • Coordinate with the heads and leadership teams of Cooley's business and litigation departments to identify and execute on internal communications needs, in coordination with the rest of the communications team and other internal departments as appropriate, including, as example, the diversity, equity and inclusion and human resources departments
  • Anticipate annual projects and new opportunities alike, preparing thorough communications plans around them, always with an eye toward maximizing Cooley's brand voice and cultural values
  • Work with and delegate tasks to other communications team members as appropriate
  • Review and approve relevant content produced by junior comms team members
  • Lead on conceptualizing, drafting, editing and proofing:
  • Internal written announcements, both all-hands and department focused
  • Video or audio projects
  • Other special projects, including those tied to external campaignsOperational focus:
    • Provide leadership in the area of business and litigation department internal communications to the marketing department and communications team, which together are supporting and amplifying the success of Cooley's global workforce
    • Collaborate to deliver effective and accurate internal and external communications to diverse audiences, ensuring a well-informed and highly motivated team effort
    • Combine great team-working skills with individual initiative and creative contributions
    • All other duties as assigned or requiredSkills and experience:Required:
      • 5+ years' experience in corporate communications
      • Expertise in copy editing and proofing skills
      • Detailed knowledge of AP style guidePreferred:
        • Bachelor's degree in journalism, media, business, English, communications or related field
        • Experience in newspaper or other media organization; or law firm or professional services arena
        • Working knowledge of professional services industriesCompetencies:
          • Self-starter who is able to work in a demanding, project-based environment
          • Ability to work with little direct supervision, in a highly collaborative environment
          • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, work well under pressure and coordinate sophisticated marketing programs with good results
          • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
          • Knowledge and passion for business, tech and legal sectors and media verticals
          • Assertive, but flexible as to style; must be able to handle tense situations and interact with various personalities and communication styles at all levels in the organization
          • Strong analytic and research skills
          • Strong ability to function well as a team member and facilitator
          • Exhibit high energy and genuine enthusiasm for law firm marketing and communications activities and goals while maintaining a healthy, competitive spirit
          • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
          • Comprehensive, accurate note taking
          • Ability to develop professional relationships with department members, attorneys and firm staff
          • Reliable and punctualCooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package. EOE.Pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay For Equal Work Act, please find the compensation range specific to this role if based in CO, as well as a description of bonus and benefits generally applicable across all US offices.
            • Colorado pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on skillset and experience - $70,000 to $90,000 annually.
            • Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
