Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Mechanical Design Engineers on the Cell Engineering Team have the opportunity and responsibility to drive impact on the entire product line and product roadmap.

Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. This requires you to be extremely rigorous and to hold your designs to the highest standard of quality, reliability, and manufacturability.

Our environment is demanding, fast-paced, and incredibly exciting. Tesla moves quickly and direction changes constantly, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical.

Our team works alongside engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts, high aptitude recent graduates, and people from every stage in between. We look for anyone with demonstrated exceptional ability to solve problems in both individual and team settings.

The Cell Materials Engineering team is looking for an engineer to drive the development of electrode binders for our dry battery electrode process. This candidate will work closely with Tesla's cell development teams to define critical material properties and accelerate implementation of these polymers in our electrodes.

* Lead the development of next-generation polymer binders for our dry battery electrode technology through molecular design and process development.
* Design experiments and characterization techniques for evaluating performance of these binders at both the component level and the cell level.
* Define and document critical material properties.
* Work with material vendors and Tesla's global supply management team to identify, develop, validate and source materials.
* Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or equivalent experience.
* Strong technical background in materials science and/or polymer science.
* Experience with materials and electrochemical testing.
* Familiarity with battery electrode processing is a plus.
