The Failure Investigation Engineer is someone who is curious, observant, and is dedicated to continuous learning in a fast-paced environment. This is a junior level role in failure investigation, where the associate will be able to lead small investigations on their own and support large scale investigations and countermeasures. The associate will begin develop a deep understanding of the instruments, software, and consumables product lines and their integration with each other through on-the-job training and work experience. This position is part of the Failure Investigation team and is a hybrid role located in Sunnyvale. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Validate and implement mitigations and corrective actions utilizing the Quality Management System; evaluate and recommend potential mitigations and corrective actions
  • Recommend and implement improvements to workflows, procedures and techniques
  • Investigate failures through established root cause analysis techniques and methods, such as data analysis and physical inspection
  • Design, execute, and interpret single and double factor experiments
  • Continuously document progress during investigations and prepare final reports The essential requirements of the job include:
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering related discipline with 2+ years of related work experience OR Master's degree with 0-2+ years related work experience
    • Experience with metrology and engineering concepts
    • Basic statistics experience, including power levels, t-test, variance
    • Experience working in a laboratory
    • Hands-on laboratory work, including the use of hazardous chemicals and clinical specimens; pipetting, operation of machinery and occasional lifting It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
      • Experience with identifying causes and solutions for mechanical, electrical or optical problems
      • Experience with metrology design and design of experiments (DoE)
